Kudos should be given to the editorial board of the Village Times Herald in their recent editorial on Affordable Housing in the region.

As a young professional on LI who writes regularly on the issues, it is nice to see a paper support the notion of constructing truly affordable units and asking the all-important question : What does the average 20-something earn and what can they afford.

When it comes to development on Long Island, these simple, yet important questions get lost in the mire of planning buzzwords that often overshadow sound planning principles. It is nice to see that the idea of going beyond the buzzwords and crafting land use policies that are based upon demographic trends and the needs of Long Islanders.
